The Inca Trail is freaken hard......

Did i mention, EXTREMELY hard.....

Hey Guys

Fresh off the track this morning, we´re writing this while waiting for our well deserved hot apple pie and icecream and hot chocolate.. To say we can´t move is an understatement.   Leah no longer has functional calves, and only one knee thats any use.   As for me, i swear my ankle is broken in 9 places, but our spirits are high and we´ve had an amazing four days.

Never let anyone tell you the Inca trail isn´t hard.  Its literally 4 days of walking up and down mountain ranges in the Andes at altitude.  At some points its mind blowing, at others its soul destroying.  Its not unusual to be told you have 4 hours of non stop stairs going up, or to be told you have 8km of walking down stairs with no flat sections..  There are no even paths, and every step is over rocks that are uneven...

At times it was really hot, and at others you need thermals and jackets on....  We were really lucky with the weather though as it didn´t rain... until this morning.  We were woken up at 3.50am to start walking into Machu Picchu.... it was dark, cold, we were in pain and yes it was pouring rain.....  To our great luck it cleared up mid morning and the sun came out ( I even got sunburnt) so we could get some great pictures which we will load in the next couple of days.

Gotta run cause my apple pie is here but will write tomorrow from Cusco... tonight we´re heading our with our tour guides for a bit more salsa in a club..

Chat soon.

  2. hey Mum!

Nah, its all ok... Our guides challenged us to stay awake for 24hrs after finished the Trek so we thought we´d go dancing with them for a laugh.. We´re not meeting until 10.30 tonight and its only 4.30 now so fingers crossed we can stay awake... we´re pretty exhausted.... Ankle will be fine.. Pain is temporary but memories last forever!!!

  4. Brilliant girls, be proud of yourselves. Thrilled to hear you are both survived the trek without too much damage. Can't wait to see the photos. Think of the salsa dancing as a massage to music. Enjoy. We await the next chapter.
    love Mum & Dad xx

  5. Katie, I’ll let Zac know your fitness and endurance levels will be Greek God like and to set your training schedule to the appropriate intensity upon your return to boot camp.
On a brighter note, Leah and Katie your body doubles on Friday night drinks have excelled themselves, so much so they swelled in numbers from two to four! I think I may need to send them to acting lessons however as they just haven’t picked up those little character gems such as alcoholism and joint verbal abuse to myself!
Looking forward to catch up with you both soon. I will put in a good word into the committee for your reinstatement (bribes will no doubt help as just like the election in this country it could come down to the wire).

  6. Hahah and may I ask who is ¨TEMPORARILY" filling our shoes Mr Stewart... Tell Zac I´ll be ready to kick ass, not scared.. Look forward to drinking again, altitude is severely inhibiting my drinking fitness.

  8. Do you want their real names or their stage names? Do you know how hard it is to find a tax professional pole dancing alcoholic these days! We will see how the full page advert in the Courier Mail with of photo of you two girls goes on Friday ;).
Zac is already aware of you new found abilities and is rubbing his hands with glee!
No excuses on the drinking front when you get back, go hard or go home!
Sponsors note (Suncorp promotes responsible drinking)

  9. Hey Ladies, I'm with Lazza, we need to get you into top drinking shape once you get here ASAP! Looking at your pictures you look like you both lost a HEAP of weight, I'm sure a few ciders and VLS can help you with that :)
On a separate note, so proud of you for hiking the Inka trail, it sounds absolutely dreadful, and to add the altitude and the sheer exhaustion from the trip already, cant even imagine! How long was the trail in total? and how many Ks a day did you do?

  10. hey Simon!..... For everyone at home - Simon is an awesome guy on our trip travelling with his GF from Germany... They are absolutely awesome and great fun. With any luck he may be moving to Australia next year so we'll have to adopt him into our family....

  11. i think we were averaging about 8 to 12km a day - but it was seriously either all up hill or straight down hill.... there was no flat parts.... It was a complete mental challenge.. The temptation is throw your toys and refuse to climb one more step was constantly there...
